StarCraft II, Coming at You in 3D

StarCraft II is selling like hotcakes, with over 3 million units to date. StarCraft II is shattering games sales records.

It already plays best on GeForce.

Our devtech team has been working hard the past few years to ensure 3D Vision will be supported. Thanks to their hard work, Blizzard has officially announced its plans to release a game patch in mid-September which will add support for 3D Vision.

"To that end, we want you to know we are hard at work on the first feature and balance patch, and expect to have it completed and available by the middle of September. Patch 1.1 will contain a number of improvements including additional mod features, Editor improvements and bug fixes, some custom game improvements, support for NVIDIA's 3D Vision, and more. We'd also like to share some specific plans for this patch with you."

Blizzard is not working with any other 3D solution to enable 3D support, so this will be an exclusive feature just for NVIDIA 3D Vision and GeForce owners.

SLI >Crossfire

Hot on the heals of [H]ardOCP's glowing series of SLI reviews:

"In our recent SLI and CFX testing lately we have been disappointed in CrossFireX performance scaling, particular in two games that we felt should be exhibiting better performance scaling."

MaximumPC took a look at SLI, and saw the same thing.

"AMD has invested substantial time and resources improving CrossFire X, but it's clear that NVIDIA's SLI is currently the superior dual GPU solution. NVIDIA's generation of DX11 cards scale very well when adding the second card, and SLI still works with more titles than CrossFire X, thought that gap is narrowing...."

It has been this way for years.

PC or Console?

The long-running debate over PC gaming or console gaming gets another turn, this time in The Telegraph, a leading newspaper in the UK.

"Perhaps the final point in the PC's favour is the sheer processing power a good gaming PC has. An up-to-date gaming PC plays video games with unbeatable graphical detail and sound. Gamers who crave the 3D gaming experience touted by Sony for the PS3 can find that PCs are more than up to the job.

There are more than 400 titles 3D-ready; all you need is the NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision Kit. And nearly every new PC game released is 3D-ready. Once again, the quality rendered on screen by a top-level gaming PC can't be matched by consoles."

No word on if Dawn or Dusk made it as a Page 3 girl.

Want a really killer media center?

"Whilst there, we were given a hands-on look at NVIDIA's HDMI 1.4 problem solver - 3DTV Play - in action and we have to say that it looked pretty impressive. We mean, how can you fail to be impressed by Lost Planet 2 in 720p 3D at a frame rate that hovered around the 40 per second mark on a 50-inch Panasonic display?"

A 3D Vision PC or notebook in your media room with 3DTV Play would play 3D Blu-Ray, enable 3D streaming for the internet, allow for 3D photos to be viewed and give you 450 games to play in 3D.

The Ramblin' Wreck is Excellent

One of the world's premier engineering and science universities, Georgia Tech is engaged in a wide number of research, development and educational activities which leverage GPU Computing. This week NVIDIA recognized them as a CUDA Center of Excellence.

"Georgia Tech has a long history of education and research that depends heavily on the parallel processing capabilities that NVIDIA has introduced with its CUDA architecture," Vetter said. "This award allows us to focus, what is now a large amount of activity across 25 different research groups, under a single center, which will significantly amplify our research capabilities."
